How Long Before My 'PRE-AUTHORISED' Deposit Is Returned:
Your bank will typically hold a pre-authorised deposit for 3 to 10 working days after you return the rental vehicle to the rental company and has been checked in and signed off satisfactory. However, this timeframe is entirely dictated by your card issuer/bank, and in some cases, it can take up to 28 to 30 days for the funds to reflect in your available balance.
Because a pre-authorisation is a temporary freeze of funds rather than a processed payment, you will not see a "refund" on your statement; instead, the pending transaction will simply disappear, and the frozen funds will then be available to re-spend. Please note: your bank controls the speed at which the transaction falls off, not the rental company.
How Long Before My 'TAKEN' Deposit Is Refunded:
Once your rental vehicle has been checked in and signed off satisfactory. The rental company will process a refund back to the same card the deposit was paid on. Refunds typically take between 3 to 10 working days to appear in your account, from the time the refund is processed, though they can take up to 30 days depending on your bank and the merchant. The delay comes down to your banking clearing times and their banking process, as the funds must transfer from the merchant's bank to your card issuer/bank. The rental company have no control over your card issuer/banks banking process.
